Starting A New Year

The Best Laid Plans

So as I set out my planner and plan out out first month. I consider what important to start out the year with. First of all, Start every day with God! His Plans are higher and better than ours. Anything I plan to do do not even matter if I don’t start with God and let Him lead our every path.

Things to do:

  1. Pray. Seek God’s Face and Let Him guide all you and your child learn.
  2. Don’t worry about being behind public school kids. That can cause you to over schedule and stress out both you and your kids.
  3. Don’t stress about Grade Levels. Know what grades your children are in, however, if their current grade gets too hard, just take a break, go back when and where needed, and go back to the harder stuff when they want to try again.
  4. Just Relax. Have Fun Learning Together! We’re on God’s Timeline/Schedule.
  5. Listen to your kids. Take a day off if needed. Learn from life, field trips, Youtube videos, etc… Trust God’s Leading! He will fill in the gaps. He knows what your kids need now and for their future!

Daily Work Box

Our Daily Work Box

So as we get closer to the start of another school year, part of the planning stage is to put together a daily work box. Whether you fill it with only things that you do together, things that your child does on their own, or a mix of both. Remember what’s important to your child and to your family.

Use a loop schedule so as to avoid burnout and bordom and to keep learning fun. The Eclectic approach works best for daily work boxes. Well, I know it works for us. Like I said before and will repeat often, find the learning style that works best for your family.

Know your children. Their interests, hobbies, your family’s lifestyle. If your teaching style and your children’s learning style are different, then I suggest studying fully about the eclectic approach, you get a little bit of everything!

As you start your new year, 1: Trust God!

2: Trust yourself and your kids!

3. Just Relax and Have fun learning together with your children!

Daily Work Boxes and Folders

Work Box and Daily/Weekly Planner

When working on a homeschool place always remember one thing, Learning happens Everywhere! So I am trying something new. We have one shelf that stores most of the supplies and curriculum in one room and a tote and bin for the curriculum used daily.

I like to use things that are easily moved out of sight if needed when company comes over or when doing our cleaning! I am always looking for new totes and carts to use, and if they have castors, even better.

So when organizing your house for this next school year, take a good look around and find what works best for your family. Get the kids involved in the process as well!

Remember, what I use and where I put them is what is works for my family. Do what works for you and your family. I just offer ideas and help however I can.

Keeping It Real!

Be Real!

Why look to Hollywood for how to act, behave, dress, find your likes and dislikes?! Is that Real?! No.

You are not being yourself. You are just copying others. Who cares what others do. Who cares what others say what to like, how to dress, what to like or dislike.

Be yourself! Like what you like. Dress how you want to dress. Search your heart. Seek out what makes you happy. Live your life! Be Positive! Be honest with yourself.

Seek The Face of Jesus Christ! He alone can tell you who you are and walk with you through this life. Make time to read His Word daily. Pray. Ask Jesus to teach you. Reach out to Him!

Starting A New School Year!

After a relaxing summer, I mean you most likely have read together, do hands on experiments, road trips, etc… but for the most part, just relaxed and just have a fun summer. As the above picture, you may just feel like going boneless.

Just so you are not going boneless at the beginning of the new school year, take a little part of your day during the summer when nothing’s going on and do a little planning every day or every other day depending on your method and what works for you. Research, use trial and error if needed, Just stop and think. Did your child’s learning style change any, same with your teaching style, is anything the same or different?

Any new curriculum you’ve wanted to try and now have the chance to give it a try. Study it out research, research, research! Get your children in on the picking the curriculum if they are old enough and desire to help. Get them to take some responsibility with their education.

Most importantly, Pray. Stay Relaxed. Let God Lead.

Sonlight Curriculum

I have looked into this Curriculum ever since I started homeschooling! It is Literature based and I just love using Literature based because it really helps to instill a Love of reading! You are able to work on Oral Dictaion and Narration to help with reading comprehension and in turn help teach writing skills by showing various types of literature and writing styles!

Sonlight has options to buy the whole package or just for whatever subjects you need. The whole package may seem pricey, but with just the right budget it is possible.

Sonlight is the original literature-rich curriculum. They pioneered this style of learning in 1990, and have been thrilled and privileged to provide top-quality education to homeschooling families for the last 27 years.

Although all of their products are available for purchase individually, the true Sonlight Experience are our literature-based, History / Bible / Literature homeschool programs.

I am hoping to start using this curruculum in the Fall. Still looking into which way to go about it, the whole package or one/two subjects at first to help us find our fit and what works for our family!

Finding The Right Curriculum

Every Homeschool Parent wonders what curriculum is right for their child/children because each child is different and learns all the same things in different ways.

That’s why it’s important to study the various learning styles and which one your child has and pick the curriculum that fits then best and gets them excited about learning!

Don’t stress about it either. It will all come together. Just trust your instincts and most importantly Trust God to lead you in all decisions.

Homeschool and Life

Well I’ve Homeschool for 4 years now and have tried virtual public schools and independent homeschool. I have researched various methods of homeschooling and learning styles to find the right fit for my child. Like other families, there have been ups and downs in finding the right approach for us and decided on an Eclectic Approach to learning. We live life, let God lead us and use various resources in our education Journey. This is my first blog post. Keep following for future posts!
